I’m pretty amazed about this story…
First off Amanda Bonnen of Chicago, IL posted on Twitter (to 20 followers), concerning an apartment she was staying in: “Who said sleeping in a moldy apartment was bad for you? Horizon realty thinks it’s okay.”
The company that owns the apartment, Horizon Reality Group, some how discovered the tweet and is proceeding to sue Bonnen for $50,000 for libal.
According Jeffrey Michael of Horizon, “We’re a sue first, ask questions later kind of an organization”
Well, this story is generating a buzz, and rightly so. It’s funny to me that such a small group of people would have even seen this post, yet Horizon is sueing Bonnen for $50K, which has ultimately increased awareness that Horizon, by there own admission, is a “sue first” company.
I would think that there is a lot of people in this world, given the choice between a moldy apartment and a $50,000 lawsuit would choose the moldy apartment. Meaning: “WAKE UP HORIZON”: You are hurting yourself more by suing than if you just called Bonnen and investigated the claim.
In fact, think about how that story would have gone down…. Bonnen gets a call from Horizon and they say: “Hey saw your tweet about the apartment, when can we schedule someone to come take a look at it?” Bonnen is amazed (maybe a little creeped out) but is happy to have a company that cares, rather than a “sue first ask questions later kind of company”
